The Latest

Last night we had our second homestudy visit. This time it was not nearly as stressful. The guy showed up and we had just sat down to start talking when Gavin had to go potty. I went to make sure that he didn't need help. I was glad I was there. Gavin noticed that there was toilet paper in the potty, so he did what you are supposed to...he flushed. Only the water didn't go down, it came back up, spilling all over the floor. I hollered for Darren. We turned off the water and soaked up all the extra with towels. Gavin still had to go potty, so I took him into our bathroom. While I was busy with that, the guy told Darren that he needed to do individual interviews anyway, so he started with Darren.

While Darren was being interviewed Gavin and I played in his room. Then it was my turn. The questions weren't hard and this time it didn't seem like he was trying to get us riled up. He asked how Darren and I met and what told me that Darren was the right guy for me. He wanted to know how Darren handled anger and how I did. He ask about my parenting style and how I thought a new little one in the family would change things. Answering these questions wasn't hard at all.

Then we called Darren back in there and we spent some time talking some more about discipline styles and about our willingness to deal with new problems that might come up when we add to our family.

At the end, he said that they needed good families like ours. Families that weren't into drugs, who valued church, and who loved kids. I think he saw the real us through the fog of all the questions.

Anyway, he wished us luck and told us that his paperwork would be filed with DHS no later than August 10. So it is back to more waiting. At least this time we have a date in mind.
