Easter Memories
As far as I know, it started with my Grandma, Ruth Beck, and we want to continue it now into another generation. Grandma would make Easter cakes with Uncle Kenny and Mom and let them decorate them. She continued it with Patrick and I. Those are special memories for all of us. So, when Gavin's Grammie called and said, "I want to make an Easter cake with Gavin that he can decorate." I was excited about the idea. Gavin and his Grammie picked out the cake, the icing, and the decorations together. Then together they created a bunny rabbit cake. For each of us it was special, we remembered our own experiences making cakes. We remembered the one who had poured her love into each of us as we baked together.
Then of course, you know there had to be an Easter egg hunt. What would Easter be without it? Gavin loved running around the yard. We would call out clues to help him locate the "mystery" eggs. Gavin was surrounded by his mom and dad, grammie and grandad, and Uncle Patrick. His eyes lit up as he run from one person to the next trying to locate all of his eggs.
Uncle Patrick is recovering well from knee surgery. We were all happy to see him walking around without a brace. Gavin was the happiest of all when Uncle Patrick scooped him up into the air. Gavin knew that Uncle Patrick really was better then.
Saturday evening, we decided to conduct a passover service. With Gavin, we didn't want to try and do the whole thing. We didn't want him to lose interest. We had the lighting of the Pesach candles and the prayer that goes with them. We told the story of the Isrealites and of our own deliverance. We ate of the salty water and the bitter herbs. We removed the 12 plagues from our cup and thanked God that we did not have to endure them. Then we had communion. When we were telling the history of the Matza and passing it around, we took half and wrapped it in a white cloth and hid it. Then after the meal, it was Gavin's job to find it and return it still wrapped for a special prize.
Gavin didn't understand everything, but he did participate through the whole service and now we all have some special memories to keep in our hearts of Gavin's first passover service.

Easter morning we all went to church together and enjoyed being family. Here is a picture of all of us after the service. To each of you...Thank you for being here and making a special Easter filled with wonderful new memories.
