| Traditions and Rocks |
| Traditions. They tie us together. They remind us of the past. Some are good and some are not so good, but we all have them. One of our family traditions is to buy an ornament each year that tells the story of our year together. As we were sorting through boxes of ornaments and lights, it was a fun walk down memory lane. Most of the time, I wrote a little bit about why I bought the ornament and the year that I bought it. Like for 2001, I bought a flag ornament so that we would never forget 9-11. But that year, I bought two ornaments. The other was a Santa Claus on an i-beam. That was the year we were living on the farm and doing so much building and learning about farm life. The year that Darren and I got together was 1996. That was the year that we bought our first ornament. Actually it wasn't an ornament that year, it was a little figure of a squirrel and a chipmunk. My message was simple..."On September 11, 1996, Darren and I first had a talk about dating in the field behind the Davis house. Since that time we have been together." I was right. How did I know 10 years ago that we would still be together? Now we have a family and we are building on the traditions that brought us together and today they make us stronger than ever. So what will our ornament be this year? I don't know yet. Darren thinks it should be a doctor!!! He is probably right after all that is where we spent most of our time. But maybe, just maybe...it should be a rock. Okay yes say it...heather is crazy!!! But here is the truth, we have been shaken and stirred. We have been twisted and turned upside down. We have had good times and bad, but we have weathered the storm and that is because of our ROCK. Now more than ever we know the importance of clinging to that Rock. So as you begin rushing around fulfilling all your holiday obligations and enjoying your holiday traditions, don't forget about the Rock that became a baby to save YOU! |

When my baby rocks, she ROCKS!!! Thank you for putting this past year in perspective. It's easy for me to lose sight of this when keeping track of all the doctors and medications. IDDICE.
