| The Drums in the Deep |

Any normal parent would always say their son/daughter is special and has unique gifts. I may be bias on this thought, but my son can do more at his age than I've seen any other 3 year old do. That's something to think about considering he turns 3 today. Yes he is struggling to get his words out, and he has other issues. That's normal. Gavin is different in the way he loves music. He likes dancing and trying to sing just like other kids. Unlike other 3 year olds, Gavin could sing and dance until he literally falls down with exhaustion. His face just radiates with happiness. Some kids bang or pretend to play certain musical instruments. Gavin actually takes his time and tries to play a song. He can play the piano. He can strum a guitar. He can beat the drums. He can play my old trombone!! That's why he got a drum birthday cake. It was all because we wanted to foster his love for music. One of the presents that Gavin got for his birthday is a drum. (In the picture below, Gavin is sitting on it. I don't think he wants to share.) Let me tell you. I have never seen a pair of drumsticks fly through the air as fast he Gavin made them fly. His aim wasn't missing. Each stick somehow found the top of the drum. Last night we were watching Shrek. He had the drum around his neck, and a song came on. Gavin listed for a second and then started hitting the drum in sync with the beat of the music on the movie. He has an ear for rhythm and beat.
 Gavin's party was pretty fun. I tried out my new grill. Only two other people realized how much fun I had with the grill (Garrett and Paul). My defense is the hamburgers were very greasy. Let me just say that I kept the burgers moist as the flames decided to reach out to touch someone (me). I still have all my eyebrows so that's a plus. I was wearing my cardinal’s shirt. I was afraid those two birds would fly off the shirt because they were getting too hot. Out of 20 burgers, I only lost 2 to either the fire or to the ground. One hot dog didn't fair well either.
There's a muscle in my stomach that I fear I may have pulled. When my niece and nephew are around, I turn into the human jungle gym. At one point, I was on my knees and both Kirkland and Elizabeth made a made dash for me. I decided to get them before they got me. I grabed them up (one on each arm), hoisted them up to my shoulders, and stood up. I think Heather has a picture of my doing that. Heather told me later that she was impressed that I could do that. That didn't impress me. What did impress me was the fact that I was able to do several push ups with Kirkland and Elizabeth on my back. Any clues as to why I am still sore?
 Our little house really seemed small Saturday. We ended up having 10 adults and 3 kids. People were plasted everywhere. (not really) The adults just kept out of the way of the kids and me. I think I was the biggest kid there. Above is a picture of everyone that was there minus Paul. He left before Heather had a change to think about pictures. (smart man. come for the food and leave just in time to avoid photos) Standing from left to right: Brandi, Bruce, Patrick, and Brenda. On the right with the pink shirt is Becky.
