| Not so child-proof |
Gavin gave his mom a good scare this morning. He was doing what all 2 year olds do. He was exploring. He was figuring things out. He was problem solving. Everything all good parents want for their children.
Heather was in the bathroom getting dressed. She knew where Gavin was and wasn't all too worried. This changed in an instant. She turned around and found Gavin with the bottle of Children's Tylenol Meltaways in one hand, the lid in the other, and something in his mouth. These meltaways melt in like 2 to 3 seconds. It's great stuff. Any parents out there? Good. Heather was like crud. He's eating the tylenol. "How many did you have?" Gavin indicated one. (how don't know). Not knowing if that was the truth, Heather started counting the remaining pills. The bottle states how many are in the bottle. Because of Heather's great deduction skills, she was able to figure out that he only just had one. (Thank you, Lord)
Now let's go back and look and this bottle. It has a child-proof lid. It's the type that you have to line up the triangle just write and break your thumb in order to pop it off. We adults hate those. Somehow, kids are always able to pop those lids. It just proves that the lid cannot be the sole line of defense. They have to be where the kids can't reach them. I admit the Tylenol wasn't put back after it's last use at 2 in the morning. That won't happen again. Geezzz.
My co-worker told me a similar story. She was driving her girl (4 months younger than Gavin) to the day care. Somehow, she got her bag. She unzipped her bag. Got her cough medicine out (syrup), and took a big swig. They got to the day care and the mom found a surprise. Her daughter had the bottle and syrup all over her clothes and a ring of purple around her lips. She was so glad there was not a lot in the bottle to begin with. The lid to this bottle is the kind you have to push down and turn at the same time.
It's scary when something like this happens. The lids are one deterrent, but parents have to keep medicines out of their reach. We do anyway, but the one time you forget, you'll find a surprise. Thank goodness God has his angels watching out for the little ones. |

I don't understand how kids get into the things they do...it's a mystery.
Glad you're ok Gavin. Try to stay out of your dad's meds, he needs his happy pills.
