| The Game's Afoot Revealed! |
"I think it's better that we go home," Heather kept saying. We pulled into the area of the lodge and found it packed with cars. No parking spot was available. "I don't have to change clothes here. Let's go somewhere else." Man, how can I convince Heather that we do need to stop. I have a good reason for stopping. She stinks. Hiking two miles really got the best of her. Well, I can't say much. I can smell myself as well. She's cranky, tired, sweaty, and exhausted. How can I pull this off? These thoughts ran through my head as I circle to find a parking spot. I almost let slip on purpose of what I was planning. "Must be strong. Must refuse self-imposed mind trick." I found a parking spot, pulled in, and shut off the engine. "I would like to look around up here before we leave. This will give you a chance to change clothes and splash some water on your face." Heather seeing there was no other way got out of the car and grabbed her bag. By her body language, I could tell I had really displeased my lovely bride.
Gavin and I walked into the lodge behind Heather. She was going to the bathroom. Good! Dalena told everyone to hide from the windows. The curtains to the CCC room were closed. Good! I stuck my head in to see the room. In the shadows and corners of the room, I could see different people. Good! Dalena and Daniel took Gavin in the room, and I waited. And I waited. And I waited. Good night she was taking for ever! I could see that Gavin was in the middle of the room. How would I explain Gavin being in the CCC room if Heather saw him through the window? By the time I got back to the curtains, someone had lured him into the shadows. I went back and waited again. You would think by this time I would have created a crazy way to get Heather to go inside the CCC room. When Heather finally showed up, all I said was "Do you trust me?" She said of course, and I had her close her eyes. I took her hand and led her into the CCC room. I got her in the middle and (once again) waited. The point of a surprise birthday party is for people to shout Happy Birthday or Surprise! Silence was what I got. Later someone told me that they didn't know what to do. (note to self: leave better instructions.) Finally the room came alive and Heather nearly fainted. I'm thinking Heat exhausting. After two long months, the game's afoot came alive.
Everyone that helped me with this did a wonderful job! Thank you. Thank you! We all had a good time. Heather was surprised. She got emotional. When she found out her Uncle and her best friend had flown in just for this, Heather didn't know what to do.
To the left is Heather and Missy taking some time to catch up on everything. They can be hundreds of miles apart, talk a few times by phone, and are extremely best friends. They can pick up right where they left off like they haven't missed a day. What a special friendship! It worked out that Missy and her husband stayed on the mountain with Heather Saturday night.

I think everyone wanted to wear orange or a shade of. Kenny, Bruce, Gavin, DJ, and (odd man) Patrick pose for a picture on top of a rock. Gavin kept the party hopping or running or dancing. He kept wanting to explore EVERYTHING! Including the side of the mountain. Everyone had so much fun with each other and with Gavin.
It was a lot of fun and well worth the hassle. Heather officially turns 30 June 6. On behalf of everyone, Happy Birthday Angel-face! Happy Birthday!

Here's a photo of Gavin cooling off in the creek we hiked prior to the start of the party. Gavin had a good time. He loved the cold spring water. At this point, Gavin had hiked or ridden about 2 miles. |
