Everyone needs a celebration.
--"Today will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Kenobi, it will soon see the end of the Rebellion." -- Darth Vadar

Everyone has something to celebrate at some time in their life. Right now, the Florida Gators basketball team is celebrating their first NCAA tournament championship. I watched some of their celebration. The athletes were jumping up and down. They dog-piled each other at center court. They celebrated with the student section and band. The excitement from this celebration is something that won't die down pretty soon. In fact, I'm sure none of those kids gotten much sleep last night. Gavin was feeling the same way last night. He was celebrating something.

Sunday night, Gavin got in his head he wanted to blow bubbles. He couldn't tell us what he wanted to do. After we asked him to show us, he held his hand to his mouth (like he was holding something) and blew. "Gavin do you want to blow bubbles?" He nodded his approval. Problem with that is, we didn't have any bubbles. It was close to his bedtime. Heather and I told him I would pick some bubbles up after work on Monday. He blew several more times and went to bed.

It didn't surprise me when Heather called to remind me to pick up bubbles. Gavin woke up, yesterday, and the first thing he wanted to do was blow bubbles. He mimmed blowing bubbles. Throughout the day he was putting sounds with his gestures. It started out as pabu, and it slowly worked to babb. He was constantly trying to get Heather to know he wanted to blow bubbles. (In fact, Heather sent me an email promising a beating with cat-tails if I didn't get any bubbles.) Well, I did not forget.

I came home. As usual, Gavin came running over to the car to greet me. I knelt down and hugged and kissed him. I then brought out the package of bubbles. At first, Gavin was excited about having his daddy home and didn't really see what I had. That gave me time to get a bottle out of the package and opened it. I gave him the wand. His eyes lit up he proclaimed "BUBBLE!" I am not kidding. Heather is my witness. I looked up at Heather and asked "Did you hear that?" She had the same look on her face as the one I felt I had on mine. "He said bubble. He's been trying to say that all day long." The rest of the evening was spent with him blowing bubbles or having daddy blowing bubbles. Everytime he would see the bubbles he would shout out "BUBBLE!" It was fun and exciting to see and hear this. Makes me want a video camera more and more.

I know when I'm excited about something or celebrated something, I have all kinds of energy. It's the type of energy that won't let you go to sleep. The night after I hit my first home run I couldn't go to sleep for hours! There are times now that I still think about that home run and I get all excited again. The same can be said for Gavin. He knew he said a new word today. He heard himself say bubble. He was excited. Gavin celebrated. I can't describe what it looks like when Gavin celebrates. It's great! Gavin, however, had the hardest time falling asleep last night. After we had turned out the light and left the room, we kept hearing Gavin talking to himself. Every few minutes he would shout out BUBBLE! This went on for quite some time. Heather and I kept laughing at this. At one point, I went in his room to tell him be quiet and go to sleep. He had his tiger on top of him and was chatting away. He was too excited about his new word, and he had to tell someone. He finally got quiet and remained that way by 10:30. (Bedtime is 8:00)

I am proud of Gavin, and I celebrate with him. I would let him celebrate and not hold it all inside.

Gavin, that's the way to do it. Keep up the good work.

Now about beating Darren with cat-tails, if you serve popcorn, I think you could probably charge admission.

Way to go Gavin! You know you can always blow bubbles in the tub.

All right Darren! Way to stay focused. Glad you didn't forget those 'bubbles' or else Gavin would've been saying concussion. Which really would have been something to celebrate, but then you'd be unconscious and wouldn't be able to join in on the celebration.
