| Journey Down a Country Road in Arkansas |
A Sunday afternoon drive for Heather the Hilarious and Becky the Bold is more than they expected. Details at 10!
What does Becky's car, a herd of cows, a flock of birds, and a turkey have in common? Usually they don't have anything in common. For Heather the Hilarious and Becky the Bold, the things that happen to them are not normal. Heather the Hilarious and Becky the Bold unfortunately know Darren the Dashing. The adventures he has are known to filter down into the lives of his unexpecting close friends. (lucky people I say)
Heather's and Becky's adventure start out normal with a weekend trip to Branson, MO. They shopped. They ate. They had fun. The next day was the day they had to come home. I'm not sure who's idea this was but they decided to take a detour to Eureka Springs first.
The travel down MO Hwy 86 was a good drive. The hills were pretty and there wasn't a lot of traffic. They turned down another Hwy that turned into AR Hwy 143. This is where the fun begins.
It wasn't too long after they crossed the Arkansas border that Heather and Becky found themselves in an interesting position. They came upon a truck parked in the opposite lane and facing the wrong way. Odd? Heather and Becky thought so but didn't really pay too much attention because a hairpin curve was fast approaching. Other trucks were parked off the road and men were walking about. Now their curiosity is getting to them. They rounded the curve. The answer was literally staring at them. Only in Arkansas would you see a herd of cows being proded down a main highway. The cows didn't escape. The cows and their herders had a purpose. (note: the herd was being pushed by two trucks from the rear. Where's the horses?)
Becky was driving. Needless to say she had to stop. Coming head on was this thick wave of black cows. Becky does the only thing she could do. She backed into a side road to let the cows pass. (I have to check put I think a herd of cows deserve the right-a-way). Great idea! I would have done the same thing. Except... .....tap....tap....tap. A farmer came up to Becky's window. After recapturing her heart, Becky rolled the window down. "Ma'am, we bringing `em cows down `tis road." Great! Now what? They can't go forward, they could go back, and they couldn't stay put. "Ya can take `tis here road and lead you straight into Grandview. Ya can't miss it," said the farmer. Without missing a beat, Heather and Becky thought "Do we need to go to Grandview?" at the same time. Well, our heroines decide to trust the word of a strange and off they went to Grandview. (note: if they stayed on Hwy 143. their travels would get them to Grandview. they didn't know this)
The day was a beautiful spring-like day in January. Heather and Becky enjoyed the ride. However, their adventures don't end there. Before they got to Grandview, they came across a flock of birds, and one turkey in the road. On reflection, Heather said, "At least the numbers are getting fewer."
Heather the Hilarious and Becky the Bold finally got to Eureka Springs and then home. So what does Becky's car, a herd of cows, a flock of birds, and a turkey have in common? They were all on the road! |
