Gavin's turn to Dance
Gavin loves to dance. He loves to dance with mommy. He loves to dance with daddy. He dances by himself. He dances with or without music. He heard about mommy dancing with the doctor. Gavin figured it would be cool to do a dance with a doctor. (Daddy discourages any more dancing with ANY doctor.) There are some things I can't control. As much as I wanted to, I could not stop what happened last night.

Heather was in the kitchen working on supper. I was on the couch watching TV with Gavin. Gavin was going back and forth between the TV and the window. Hermie's Fruitcake Christmas was playing and Grandma Corbin was soon to arrive. (That's why he was going to the window.) Gavin came back to watch some more TV. He was lying on the floor with his feet propped up on the TV stand. This is nothing new. He does this all the time. I wasn't worried. Gavin wasn't kicking it or playing around. He sat up, and I looked away for a second. (It may not have been a full second. Perhaps a nano-second) That's when things got crazy. I wish I knew what exactly happened. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the TV moving. I saw a spark. Then, I heard a thud followed by a scream that would have taken out 3 Death Stars. Can you guess what happened? If you're saying the TV landed on Gavin, than you WIN!! Gavin must have gotten the stand to rock just enough to cause the TV to fall forward. I don't know. All I knew was I watched the TV fall on Gavin's head. Since the DVD and VCR was hooked up, they followed. I'm not sure where they landed. When everything settled, Gavin was underneath the VCR. Let's freeze and review.

Heather is in the kitchen. I'm on the couch which is a good 10 feet from the TV. Grandma at this point was 2 miles away. All sound disappears. Seconds take minutes. It's the Matrix's motion. I saw the TV falling. I saw the fear and surprise on Gavin's face. I saw Gavin reaching his arms up as if to catch the TV. I saw sparks illuminate the area. (That's from the TV being unplugged from the wall.) I watched in horror as Gavin buckled. As I was moving, I saw the DVD and VCR falling. Everything then went back into normal speed.

Since I was all ready on the move, I got to him first. Heather came in a second later. Heather panicked. I did too until my first responder training took over. (first aid) For the next few minutes, I was fairly calm. I pinned Gavin down so he couldn't move. That's not what I wanted to do. I wanted to pick him up. I couldn't do that, yet. I had to make sure there was no neck or spine injury. I noticed a huge knot on his forehead. It's about the size of my fist. Other than that, he seemed fine. Heather picked him up. That's when my brain went into overdrive. There was a trickle of blood coming out of his nose. Heather and I both said something about ER about the same time.

By the time we got out the house, grandma was driving up the drive. We called her before so she wouldn't be too freaked out. She got out of her car and got in ours. What a way to say hi to mom! We were on our way. Luckily for us the after hours peds clinic was still open. The receptionist took one look at Gavin and said, "That looks like that would hurt." Does it take professional education to figure that out? Gavin got to see the doctor pretty quickly. It helped we were pretty much the only ones there.

Gavin liked the doctor. The dance Heather had with the neurologist was the same the doctor and Gavin did. One difference, it wasn't comical. Gavin checked out well. His reflexes were what they were suppose to be. He was even able to blow out the doctor's light. Gavin liked that so much he did it several more times. Pretty much what Gavin got out of this is a really big headache.

This is what the doctor told us. "Breathe." Our little man has nothing to worry about. Gavin slept really good last night. I can't say that about me. I kept replaying the images I saw earlier in my head all night. I'll be honest. This freaked me out. I'm so glad Gavin is fine.

I talked to Heather this morning. She says Gavin is his usual self. He's happy. He's playing. He's not affected. The only thing is he has a nice bump on the head. When the bump goes away, I'm going to advise him to avoid dancing with doctors. If he wants to dance, I'll arrange for him to dance with our friend's little girl. No harm, right? Well, it might be the next feature on WWF RAW. Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!!!!

    Dude,
I'm not sure I could've held my composure the way you did. I know exactly what you mean about the matrix effect (been there a couple of times) and I didn't enjoy it. I guess the force must truly be with him if all he walked away with was a bruise and a headache. He must have wanted to see hermie in 'high definition'.

Whether Gavin has the force or angels looking out for him, I'm glad for any help. I can't get over how quickly he rebounded. The day after this accident he is completly himself. However, for a few days he started to resemble a Vulcan off of Star Trek..
